San Marcos Travel Guide
Welcome to San Marcos!
Considered the gateway to Texas Hill Country, San Marcos is less than a one hour drive to both San Antonio and the state capital, Austin. Best known as home to Texas State University, San Marcos acts as a window into the breathtaking nature that Hill Country is famous for. Temperatures that average 58° F (14° C) in winter and reach 90° F (32° C) during summer days keep things warm enough to visit all year long. There is much to enjoy in the San Marcos area, such as the fertile San Marcos River, tours to the center of an earthquake fault-line at Wonder World Park and walks through parks lined with historic, 19th-century homes and towering oak trees. San Marcos is locally renown for its outlet mall shopping and community events such as the Independence Day Summerfest.
